Do You Have a Fall-Back Plan?

With the New Year fast approaching, some of you may be looking at things that could force you out of the industry, like arthritis, carpal tunnel, or other health issues. Having a career that we love has spoiled us all and many do not have a “plan B.” If you had to give up doing nails tomorrow, what would your options be?

Did you do something before nails? Do you have a degree? Is there an alternate position in your salon — such as spa manager or receptionist — that would be a possibility? What about working for a distributor or supply store so you can pass on knowledge to the next generation?

If this has happened to you, what path did you take? How did you survive and does it make you just as happy? Sometimes planning for the future isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, however having a rough idea in the back of your mind for how to react could make things a little less stressful if the time ever comes.

I look forward to your comments and feedback in the comments section below!
