From the runway to reality, the nail artist turned professional says she got her nail license three years ago after 17 years of doing nails as a hobby. Since Alfaro’s work wardrobe mostly consists of black tops, she treats nails as the signature eye-catching piece of an outfit. She likes to mix up various black, gold, and embellished combinations to give her clients and herself an edgy design. “You can never go wrong with these colors. It definitely makes a statement,” she says.

1. Prep the nail and apply two coats of black polish. Let it dry completely.

2. Apply two pieces of striping tape in a diagonal to create a triangle shape on the center of the nail.

3. Use nail glue and a marbling tool to place Swarovski crystals and gold studs in a variety of shapes on the space inside the created triangle. Let it dry.

4. Covering only the black area of the nail, apply a thin coat of OPI 18K Gold Top Coat or use gold nail foil to create the luxe effect. Seal the design with a generous amount of top coat.
