Ryoko Garcia was named NAILS Next Top Nail Artist.After 10 weeks of elimination rounds last fall, three finalists were left standing in NAILS Next Top Nail Artist competition sponsored by Gelish. NAILS flew the Top 3 — Buddy Sims, Lauren Wireman, and Ryoko Garcia — to Long Beach this past weekend for the International Salon and Spa Expo to compete in the final challenge and find out who would be crowned the winner.

On Sunday, January 26, the Top 3 (Buddy Sims, Lauren Wireman, and Ryoko Garcia) participated in the fourth and final part of their Gelish-sponsored final challenge. We gave them a mystery box filled with Gelish colors and surprise craft store products. They were given three hours to craft five individual Valentine’s Day-themed nails.

You won this week’s OPI Mariah Carey-inspired challenge and the judges praised your lovely color palette, your thoughtful use of “bling” elements, and your handpainted techniques. This holiday season, Mariah Carey is the face of the company’s glam holiday collection. We tasked our Top 3 to create a set of natural nails (on someone’s hands) that is inspired by Mariah Carey.

Many of our judges loved your C-3PO design the most and were really wowed by your creativity and execution.
Challenge 9, sponsored by CND, asked our Top 4 to use inspiration boards from Spring/Summer 2014 Fashion Week to create three unique looks. Drawing inspiration from designers The Blonds and Michael Van Der Ham, our contestants used a combination of professional nail products and non-traditional materials (X-ray film, clock parts, VHS tape, and a grilled memory card!) to create these fashion-forward looks.
