As a proud Top 10 contestant, I am excited to be writing about Connecticut as my hometown state. Located in the northeast region of New England, Connecticut is known for many great things. Dominating in health and sports, this powerhouse state has birthed awesome historic legends and even our former 43rd president George W. Bush. Who was born in New Haven, Conn., on July 6, 1946. Connecticut’s own UConn Huskies are featured in this mural. The school has one of the top men’s and women’s basketball teams in the nation. Many great players such as Nykesha Sales, Sue Bird, and Cliff Robinson have brought this team to several national wins. Also featured in this mural is our Hartford capital and the number-one teaching health facility in the state of Connecticut, Yale New Haven Hospital. My inspiration for this mural derived from what Connecticut is known for all over the nation — our dynamic basketball team, hospital and Yale University.
For this challenge I choose to do a look inspired by a “Girls Night Out on the Town.” When I thought about “mysterious”, the words “difficult,” “not easy to understand,” “puzzling,” and even “secretive” came to mind. To create my mysterious look I encapsulated lace inside the nails to give a dark flirty, but still girly, look. On top of the lace nails I added nail jewelry with large embellishments, such as a black diamond bow, Swarovski crystals, and spikes that are set inside of purple and black colored acrylic. I then added metallic foil in royal blue, emerald green and a touch of silver to the tips of the nails. The word “mysterious” can often give a vibe of scary and creepy. For this look I wanted to show that mysterious can also be flirty and easy to wear.
The design trend I chose is New Neons. This challenge brought out the funky side of my nail art. My nail design was inspired by the ’90s, when bright colors were mixed and worn together. As seen on TV shows like “Saved by the Bell” and “The Prince of Bel Air”, these fashion trends told a story of how people felt. I completed my design with a background of different neon bright colors painted vertically with black art on top to enhance the colors.
