Easy (and Spooky!) as 1-2-3: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Brushes

Posted November 1, 2013

challenge7_ryoko

Congratulations to Ryoko, who won this week’s It’s So Easy three-stroke Halloween challenge. The judges were wowed by your intricate design and could hardly believe you created it with three strokes. Many of our judges commented on how technical your negative space skull design was and were amazed that it came together in only three strokes.

Here are just a few more of the great comments you earned:

NAILS’ senior editor Brittni: Ryoko makes incredible use out of that first stroke! This cracked-skull design is sufficiently creepy with good use of negative space.

NAILS’ editor Hannah: Wow. That’s truly amazing. This doesn’t look like a three-step design at all. How crazy that you drew it in reverse? Spooky. Halloween-y. I especially love the teeth and the streak of blood.

NAILS’ production manager Carla: At first glance, I couldn’t believe this was done in only three strokes. Brilliant design that was expertly executed to a perfectly ghoulish effect!

NAILS’ art director Danielle: Your skull is so scary! Great job.

The nail tech who is packing up her paintbrushes this week is…Lexi Martone. Lexi, this was a tough week for the judges. A two-time winner and frequent top finisher, we had really come to expect a level of detail and bold choices from you and expected you to go far in this competition. We thought this Halloween challenge would be right in your wheelhouse and we were confused with your choice of an abstract design. It just didn’t feel like classic Lexi. You are one of our favorites and we love your dark fashion sense and your unique take on every challenge. Your artistic capabilities are mind-blowing. You are definitely one of the top artists in this competition. We look forward to following your artistic journey and seeing what you come up with next!

You can follow Lexi online: Fingerpainted, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Tune in later today to vote for the Week 8 challenge. Good luck to Buddy, Julie, Lauren, Ryoko, and Winnie, who will all continue in the competition.
