International Nails: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Paintbrushes

Lexi_challenge4lr

Congratulations to Lexi Martone for winning her second challenge in a row. For this week’s heritage-themed international nail challenge, Lexi embraced her Italian roots to give us a food (and wine) themed design. The judges were floored by the motorized spinning pizza. We love how you take nail art to the next level with your out-of-the-box thinking. You showed a solid mastery of gel, acrylic, and handpainting techniques and created a cohesive design. Other than the spinning, we especially loved the construction of the pizza itself and the pouring wine. As always, we also love your videos and personality. The music, the tight shots, and your narration help to solidify your top spot this week. One of the judges even commented that this design almost doesn’t look hand created because it’s so close to perfect!

The LA Manicure: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Paintbrushes

Lexi_challenge3lr

Congratulations to Lexi Martone for winning this week’s LA-themed French twist challenge. The judges were awed by your concept and your execution. Your reinterpretation of a French manicure is modern and bold, while still showing great restraint. We love that every nail is different, yet the overall feel is cohesive. The matte finish really solidified your win. Your use of black and white allows this design to be versatile and the subtle embellishments add a hint of elegance. It also reminds us of The Getty Center, an iconic LA landmark. Several of the judges said they’d be honored to wear this design.

Congratulations to Simone Gilbert for winning this week’s nautical challenge. The judges were blown away by your ambition to tackle so many details for your design. We loved the beautiful octopus tentacle and appreciated the clever use of beads under the gel to get the suction cup effect. All of the details in the reef were perfection and we loved watching your video to see how you created everything — the coins, the jewels, the water bubble, and the urchin. You have great technique working with gel and we were thoroughly impressed.
