Animated Short: The Top 2 and the Bottom 2

Week9_top2

Challenge 9 asked our contestants to take inspiration from INM’s animated series featuring Jimmy the Swan. Contestants had to create a single fantasy nail art tip complete with at least one movable component. The animated portion of the nail had to be INM-related somehow. Any mediums could be used except embellishments. A video and sketch were also mandatory for completing the challenge.

This week’s guest judge was former NTNA season two competitor and current INM educator, Marisol Alvarado. Permanent judges include CND’s Jan Arnold, NAILS NTNA season 2 winner Lavette Cephus, NAILS editor Erika Kotite, NAILS senior editor Beth Livesay, and the rest of the team at NAILS Magazine.

In alphabetical order, the top 2 are:

Celina: The judges are nostalgic and in the Christmas spirit upon seeing your nail. You didn’t just make a piece of fantasy nail art, you made a clever story to go along with it.

Winnie: You outdid yourself this week! The judges couldn’t get enough of your brilliant crank and industrial design sensibility. To say we were all impressed would be an understatement. Our only suggestion is to be a touch cleaner and neater in your detailing and workspace.

Unfortunately, there always has to be a bottom group. The bottom 2, in alphabetical order, are:

Sarah: The details in your wing and your overall design exudes sophistication. More texture and detail would have amped this tip up more. The idea to make a love interest for Jimmy was so cute and fresh, but this design wasn’t as animated as some of the other contestants’ work.

Torie: Your swan bobble head won the judges’ hearts. We can see the fun you had creating your version of Jimmy. However, we are not sure if this design (as great as it is) is ambitious enough for this point in the competition.
