Rocky Horror Halloween: The Top 2 and the Bottom 2

Week8_top2

Challenge 8 sponsored by Gelish asked our contestants to get ready for Halloween by celebrating the 40th anniversary of the cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Top 5 were allowed to use a variety of mediums so long as polish and gel-polish were somewhere in the design. Final sets also had to include the colors red, black, white, and a glow-in-the-dark feature. Contestants also had to create a video that detailed the process.

This week’s guest judge was Danny Haile of Gelish. Permanent judges include CND’s Jan Arnold, NAILS NTNA season 2 winner Lavette Cephus, NAILS editor Erika Kotite, NAILS senior editor Beth Livesay, and the rest of the team at NAILS Magazine.

In alphabetical order, the top 2 are:

Celina: The judges love that you used your imagination to make this Rocky Horror manicure your own. The opening of your video was so good, the voice and mask may have even scared some of the judges a bit. Our only concern is that the nails don’t necessarily read Rocky Horror at first glance, but we appreciate you taking a non-literal approach.

Torie: Those mother-of-pearl backgrounds were a pure hit as were the blood-splattered elevator doors. Your demo was zoomed in and tight, perfect for watching you paint Frank’s face beautifully.

The following tech can breathe again. She is in the middle of this week’s pack and is safe. Congratulations to:

Winnie: The judges adored the use of the glow sticks and agree that you are a nail art visionary with the things you create. This particular video was a bit too jumpy and fast, though.

Unfortunately, there always has to be a bottom group. The bottom 2, in alphabetical order, are:

Lauren: The judges so loved the mix of typography, portraiture, and negative space. The detail here is killer! However, the music in your video was a bit distracting and while the technique explanations were thorough, speaking your tutorial would have been even better.

Sarah: The judges love that they can count on you for a clean set of wearable nails, however they felt this set was a bit too safe for a Week 8 challenge. They encourage you to take a bit of a risk and show us some edge.
