Paint the Town: The Top 2 and the Bottom 2

Challenge 9, sponsored by Bio Seaweed Gel asked our Top 4 to recreate their favorite neighborhood on 10 nail tips. The design had to be made using gels and gel-polish and had to contain 3-D elements. Embellishments were also allowed. Contestants had to upload a tutorial to Nail Art Gallery to show how they made their set. This week’s guest judge was Hellen Luu of Bio Seaweed Gel.

In alphabetical order, the Top 2 are:

Jonny Diep Pham: Wow, dude, you really did surprise the judges this week! You stepped out of your comfort zone and gave us a piece of nail artistry that seemed to flow like the ocean itself. The only suggestion the judges have is that you watch the order of your pictures in the tutorial (maybe place them clockwise so they’re easier to follow?).

Tracey Lee: When it comes to details, your piece has it all. The judges loved the clothes on hangers, souvenirs, and cool locale that you introduced us to. We just wish that the nail tips had figured more prominently into the piece. With so much going on at every angle of this design, we also advise that you plan the layout of your piece so that nothing’s covered and it can be photographed in all its glory.

Unfortunately, there always has to be a bottom group. The bottom 2, in alphabetical order, are:

Liina Leino: Liina, the judges loved those cobblestones and statues! We thank you for your tour of Helsinki. The details on the Ferris Wheel could have been more refined to match the level of detail we found in your streets and the cruise ship. When it comes to your tutorials, the judges are craving more details from you. We want to know how you make the amazing art that you do.

Tracy Vinson: You always do beautiful work, but this week the judges felt there was a lack of finely detailed work. The palm trees were so cool, as was the idea to put lights in the castle. However, the judges would have loved to see how the taxis and carriage were made.
