Profile
I’m 29 years old, a single mom to twins, and I have been doing nails for three years. This is not just a job for me – it’s meditation. When I grew up in an orphanage, there was a lot of noise around me. So being an artist allowed me to immerse, express, and be myself. The process in seeing my thoughts, coming to life through my hands, gives me a special feeling. My style in nails is mostly inspired by nature. Having a graphic design and makeup artist background, I dream about styling models and creating nails for fashion shows, magazines, and commercials.
This is my third go at NAILS Next Top Nail Artist and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to compete amongst these amazing artists. So let’s have fun!
Week 3: LeChat
Perception Vs. Reality
Have you ever been in a wild forest in the night? That magic sound of nature, the whistles of branches and wind, all make you feel like you’re not alone. There can be a scary silhouette of a person, that is in reality just a beautiful old tree. This was my inspiration to create a tree with a crown and roots attached to an emerald jewel as my middle finger. Emeralds are the color of nature and it’s said to improve eyesight and well-being. Amber is a fossilized resin from ancient evergreen trees, that coming from the old forests, inspired me to create nails like they would be made of amber. Amber is said to contain incredibly powerful energy, to carry a strong psychic protection, that will help and protect you, and to overcome your fears of perception.
Week 2: Mia Secret
Safari Mani
When I heard safari and saw the pastels, I thought about my daughter Saga. Saga is just a great animal lover. She wears animal clothes, costumes, and she has tons of stuffed animals. I was also thinking about all the cute nursery blankets she had as a baby. When I think about safari, I think about the huge air balloon over the savannah, so I wanted to create one and a cute childish theme to go with it. I asked Saga how I should make this set to match her wishes. She said I should use all shades from the rainbow! Me and my twins picked the animals out and on the nails it’s illustrating the kids, their dad, their grandmother, and me. The three flags are celebrating that I placed in the Top 3 last week.
Week 1: Orly
Seeing Clearly
When I saw all of my Orly products I was instantly attached to the rose gold metal color Lucid Dreams. I paired it with two of Orly’s other metal polishes for a tri-tone look. Lucid Dreams means to be able to control and seeing your dreams clearly while sleeping. If I could control just one thing, it would be time, so this led to my theme.
I encapsulated clock parts in four of the nails using Builder in a Bottle. I found the prettiest nail in Home Depot and I thought that it would be so much fun to encapsulate a real nail inside a finger nail and I wanted it to look like the body of a dragonfly. Dragonflies are the keepers of dreams, the energy within that, sees all of our true potential and ability. Dragonflies inspire spirituality and creativity, they help us on the path of discovery and enlightenment. They remind us that anything is possible. Since I encapsulated metal inside, these nails are magnetic all over. Using mini magnets I glued my clock parts and dragonfly on them, so they are removable. The clock hands on the index finger are pointing out and leading my way and are being able to control my time. Finally, I created a finger watch with a chain attached to the pinky finger, inspired by a pocket clock. When you open this clock, there’s two turnable keys as clock hands. They go together hand-in-hand: the key to open yourself up and the key to success.
