Another Dimension: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Brushes?

Congratulations to Carly Snyr for winning her first challenge of the season and the 10th and final weekly challenge of Season 6!

Guest judge Lauren Wireman said, “Great attention to detail, what a unique piece! If you would have chosen a broader range of color, you could have created even more depth and pop. The concept of depth was there with your top hexagons and bees, but they could have been taken a bit further for more of a wow factor. You did an excellent job keeping the proportions of Jan’s face!”

Season 5 champion Valerie Ducharme said, “I love your inspiration, you are unique. I would like to see Jan’s face with more colors, which would have also raised the level of technique. You are simple and very clear in your teaching. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I liked that you explain at the beginning of your live what NTNA is because not everyone knows.”

Head judge Jan Arnold said, “Absolutely brilliant illusion work! The design brings you in with its harmony of composition, then the eye continues to delve deeper for astonishing reality! We love the honey pot structure using nail tips, the drips of honey, and the overall creativity!”

NAILS art director Yuiko Sugino said, “Great composition, I love the concept. The line work could be a bit cleaned up. It currently has a sketch-like feel, but the shadowing really help give it a 3-D quality. Darken the shadowing to amplify the dimension. The touch of honey at the top is very effective in giving texture to the whole set. Maybe a pop of light blue in Jan’s eyes would have added more dimension. Good Facebook Live! Very casual, but fun — the practice nail is adorable. Really neat to see how you sketch and your use of the tablet is smart. Good time lapse showing sketchwork.”

Head judge Beth Livesay said, “Such a unique twist on the concept — which is why you’re here! I like the hand molding of the Lace Paste and the use of nails as the background. I appreciate that you incorporate Lauren’s technique. The honey drip is purely satisfying. My only critique is that you may need more dimension to get the optical illusion effect. On camera you are as cute and professional as ever! Love the use of Adobe Sketch and the practice nail. So well done!”

The nail tech packing up her paintbrushes this week is…Nixxi Rose.

Nixxi has won the most challenges this season and has proven to be an innovator as well as an artistic genius. Thank goodness this won’t be the last we hear from Nixxi. She will move on to the final CND Last Chance Design Lab, where she’ll have one last chance to stay in the competition. Check back next week to see who will move on in our Last Chance battle and on to the finale — Kelsey or Nixxi.

Tune in Monday for the final Last Chance challenge of the season. Good luck to Kelsey and Nixxi!
