Strike a Pose: Who Won and Who is Packing Up Their Brushes

Congrats to Kelsey Waldo for winning her first challenge! The judges cherished her risk-tasking Madonna set that crossed the borderline.

Guest judge Deanna Stelmaschuk said, “Classy video with good editing! Awesome product demonstration. Clever trick with the pin. Would have loved some color and a more prominent “V” but overall it was a fabulous set. Love the bondage look!”

Season 5 champion Valerie Ducharme said, “I am amazed by this masterpiece! Your balance is perfect and you gave us a beautiful final photo. Thank you for creating your own embellishments. It’s a feast for the eyes along with your video. This week you came back strong. Keep focused and continue on!”

Head judge Jan Arnold said, “Incredibly exciting and risk taking design! Definitely risqué and dangerous. I loved the harness made from gel-polish. The nail needs to stay framed center to the screen for improved viewing.”

Head judge Beth Livesay said, “Wow, what an impactful photo! I love the video intro too. The cone bra inspiration for the shape is so good and non-literal. It makes this set so unique and cohesive, and shows what you can really do. Thank you for making those chains and the collar too. The Super Bowl point of inspiration was very original, and it’s topped off with that crown! So befitting of the queen of pop.”

NAILS art director Yuiko Sugino said, “The nail shapes are bold and unique, just like Madonna. Your shapes are probably the most representative of the music icon this week. Every detail is on point. That facial expression is PERFECT and the detachable crown is icing on the cake! The embellishments and colors allow for a lot of sass and attitude in the entire set. I appreciate the time it probably took you to connect those rings. Great video with excellent tips and advice!”

Kelsey will receive an En Vogue trolley with the complete En Vogue product line inside (approximate value: $850)!

The nail tech who will be packing her paintbrushes this week is… Emily Nash. Emily has been in the Top 3 twice this season. Her phenomenal hand painting and acrylic work have set her apart.

This won’t necessarily be the last you hear from Emily. She will move on to CND’s Last Chance Design Lab where she’ll have one last chance to stay in the competition. Check back Friday to see who will move on in our Last Chance battle — Emily or Jenna.

Tune in Monday to see the results of the KUPA challenge and vote for your favorites! Good luck to our Top 5!
