Triptych Fix: The Top 2 and the Bottom 2

Challenge 8, sponsored by KUPA, challenged the Top 5 to carve out a triptych-type of nail design. This week’s guest judge was Elaine Watson of KUPA.

In alphabetical order, the Top 2 are:

Kelsey: The judges applaud your ambitious design! The peacock was so very cool, and you proved to have quite the carving skills. Watch the volume on your video and also make sure the overall art is not so muddy and dark.

Nixxi: Your carving skills captivated the judges this week! They applaud your use of vibrant color, carving technique,  and overall attention to detail. Your layering of gradient acrylic was just as masterful. The frog is so realistic — definitely a judge favorite!

Carly: The judges so admire how unique and fun you are. You took an older theme and gave it a modern twist. However, there was too much dust in the frame of your video. Watch the mix and detailing of your themes. For example, the gold frame didn’t exactly go with the video game feel.

Ashley: Your color choices this week were a standout. However, the dust on your table stole the show. The judges felt this design was more etched than carved and the finished look appeared too thick. At Top 5, you need to challenge yourself with more 3-D creations and added complexity.

Ashton: The advice in your video is SO good! Overall, your creation is a little too dark. The judges are used to seeing your work appear very clean, and this week the design lacks finishing. Bravo on your clean video frames!
