Ilona

Profile

Full Name: Ilona Vasiliauskiene
Hometown: Vilnius, Lithuania
Salon: International Nails Training Center Oniksas
Preferred Nail Art Medium: Acrylic & Gel
Favorite Nail Trend: inlay french designs, thin lines, minimalistic nail art

Working with nails I am drawn to creativity, which I am full of. Creating posters, it’s as if I am meditating. It’s how I rest from life’s negativity and surrounding stress. I am a person of action, I don’t like to sit in place, I want to move forward, I want to work and work a lot so that my daily life is not a routine. I love to break rules, standards, and myths in this work atmosphere. That is why each time I am able to think of a new challenge for myself, I grow as a nail technician and as a person.

Week 3: LeChat

Nails Are My Super Power

It’s not about how bad you want it. It’s about how hard you’re willing to work for it. The most beautiful thing about this competition is possibility to force yourself to make your dreams come true. When we got our challenge from LeChat I asked everyone what my super power is. The answer surprised me, because they all said that I don’t have one – I have lots of them. The ones I liked most were :
– surviving without sleep
– passion for chemistry and math
– explaining difficult diagrams in an easy way
I showed this in my work.
In the middle you can see me as the owl which doesn’t sleep at night with HUGE Cup of Coffee (I need to admit that I’m addicted to it). My passion for studies and books helped me win an international economist competition organized by TOTAL GAS & OIL, there were 10200 participators and I won 4th place.
Chemistry is like a game for me, I love doing funny experiments with my daughter and explain for my students that it makes a huge influence for our work. Even when we are mixing materials with each other we can get interesting results, just try it.

Week 2: En Vogue

Star Crossed

First of all, I was very excited when I read this assignment because there were no strict criterias and I could let my imagination wander freely. Creative topics charm me and doing these types of projects relax me. This topic is very special to me, because I believe in fate and horoscopes. I have come face to face with unexplainable scenarios many times in my life, which affected my destiny, I believe, in one way or another.

In astrology we have 12 zodiac signs which are categorized by dates. Each sign has its own strengths and weaknesses, specific character traits, desires, and outlook on life and other people. I knew immediately that I would portray my sign with darkness, so that it would mirror my own self. Also, dark colors are very dominant for Libras. I decided to choose the Aries because that is my daughter’s sign. She is my complete opposite. I am like a fall storm, and she is like the sun of an early spring day. This project reflects good and bad, chaos and order, sun and storm. All in all: balance and harmony. I used different shades of blue to portray a storm and darkness. It is said that the Libra symbolizes the connection of day and night. An Aries symbolizes the return of the sun’s warmth. This sign’s colors are raspberry, red, and yellow. That is why I chose these colors, I wanted to represent the warmth that they spread, the awakening of nature, the sun’s shining. The song “The Rasmus- October and April” really inspired me for this project, it wonderfully reflected October and April (Libra and Aries) differences. However, they fulfill each other and create a whole. April completes Libra’s storms and chaos with its good and warmth.

This project is very special to me. I can express my family’s values through the work. This job was almost like a personal family tree, which reflects us together as one. Working on this project, I felt satisfaction with every finished detail, because this was a project that reflected my life. I made it very personal, as if I opened myself up and released my entire soul into it. This job touched my life’s purpose and meaning: family.

Week 1: CND

Secret Garden

I was  intrigued by CND’s spring collection, which would reflect the 18th Century’s softness and a woman’s innocence. In the 1800s, women were more frequently shown in portrait, that is why I chose to  reflect a woman’s portrait.  However, I wanted to show her trapped inside the walls of her castle. There are a lot of Gothic elements in this century. I show this in my work through the Romantic Gothic ornaments and dark glass which I put on the back side. I wanted it to reflect a person’s deep fear inside of darkness and death. In order for there to be harmony in my work, I chose to create the base with CND’s spring collection.

Work process:
1.I glued the tips and coated them with color  “CND Shellac LADY LILLY”.
2.I airbrushed the tips, using all of the “CND’s spring collection” colors. which I watered down with spirit.
3. I drew myself a sketch on a paper which I covered with tape.
4.On the sketch I formed an example form and worked with acrylic “CND CLEAR”
5.I used a nail drill to design into the wanted shape
6.I watered down the color “CND Shellac LADY LILLY”  with spirit, and evenly sprayed it on the finished  form with an air brush.
7.I mixed the color black with “CND Shellac Dura Force Top Coat”, and created the trial base which 8.I attached to the sketches back side, as if it was glass.
9.I formed the face out with acrylic “CND intense pink”
10.I worked it up  using a nail drill, to make nice and smooth face
11.I coated the face with gel polish (mixes black & white color)
14. I attached the final details to the finished work  using acrylic “CND Clear”
15. Thin lines with white 3d design nail art gel polish + CND Clear powder
