Once Upon a Time: Who Won and Who is Packing Up Their Brushes?

Congratulations to Allison Goertzen on her second NTNA win of the season! The judges were over the moon with her set!

Guest judge Chrystacle Cronk says, “We are very impressed with how Alison presented us as a sponsor, wearing our apron, and bringing a cute and fun element to her video with the Ducky! She displayed our products well and the lighting and video quality were on-point. It was hard finding something to critique other than we would have liked to see Allison push herself and maybe bring more dimension to her piece. We say this because we know she can! Overall we are extremely impressed with all her work!”

Guest judge Natasha Harton says, “This entry was overall the whole package in this week’s challenge for us. The overall set was very cohesive and had movement with her characters. Our favorite was the cow and when it jumped over the moon. We found this piece really presented a story.”

Season 6 champion Ashton Harlan says, “WOW! I really appreciate that she took the time to hand paint a stunning background for the nails, even though they are not the focal points of the design. And I absolutely love the moving pieces as they tell the story in such a fun way and clever way! The cow is literally jumping over the moon! Great video and teaching, as always. My only critique for Ally this week is that the white dish and spoon, being photographed against a white background, could use more detail or outlines so they are not lost in the final photo. Excellent job!”

Head judge Jan Arnold says, “The design was dynamic, interactive and engaging. Great job of framing tools and products to techniques. The design looked very simplistic, however, the background was photo-realistic and the elements were perfectly rendered.”

Head judge Beth Livesay says, “Your character work is so beautiful and I learned a lot from seeing how you used the Ugly Duckling products, especially the Acrygel for movement. I knew immediately what the theme was when I saw this piece come in — it’s outstanding in its clarity and contrast. It’s not cartoony, but still childlike and whimsical. The cow making the jump over the moon was the perfect touch.”

Ally will receive a seat at the next Ugly Duckling 5k Marathon of Education 2021 (not including room and accommodation) and $500 to spend at UglyDucklingNails.com! (Prize value: Over $2,000!).

The nail artist who will be packing her paintbrushes this week is…April. April stepped into NTNA late in the game — and did exceedingly well! We are forever grateful for her positive attitude, Southern hospitality, and passion for teaching.

For now, April will move on to the CND Last Chance Design Lab, where she’ll have one last chance to stay in the competition. Check back next Friday to see who will move on in our Last Chance battle — April or Jessica.

Tune in Monday to see the entries for the ORLY challenge and vote for your favorites! Good luck to our remaining Top 7 competitors!
