For Season 7’s seventh Last Chance Design Lab challenge sponsored by CND, April Lang and Giselle Caballero will battle it out to see who has a chance of staying in the competition. CND’s Jan Arnold will select her favorite look Friday and you’ll find out who will remain for at least one more week.

All Last Chance challenges are done on a single nail tip. Contestants are also asked to describe their looks. There are no other elements to this battle.

Since Giselle packed her paintbrushes after Swarovski’s Time to Shine challenge, this week’s Last Chance is loosely related.

Matte Finish: Choose a significant moment in your life and hand paint it on a single tip with a matte finish (no embellishments).

Here are the looks they created:

April

One of my most significant moments was deciding to come back home to Pensacola, Fla. I had been living in Nashville, Tenn. for several years when my husband and I made the move back to the Gulf Coast.  To represent this moment, I placed the famous Nashville skyline off in the distance at the top. My hometown of Pensacola is famous for our world class beaches and the flight program for our United States Navy.  I included the historic Pensacola Beach sign that points the way to the beautiful sugar sand of the Gulf!  No representation of Pensacola is complete without the Navy’s famous Blue Angels flying across the sky.  This homecoming has been so special to me because I would not have entered this competition and had this amazing experience courtesy of NAILS Magazine!

Giselle

It’s just a little over 11 years since  I had made the biggest and hardest decision I have ever had to do, I boarded a plane that took me to Canada, with just one suitcase, a pair of not-so-ready-for-the-winter boots and a heart full of hopes and dreams, it was scary and just for a second I contemplated turning around and going back home. It is here, Canada my new home, that I found love, where I became a mom and was able to grow my passion for nails. Being an immigrant hasn’t always been easy but if there’s something I’ve learned it is that time is kind and destiny is wise so we must trust our journey and stay proactive.

I wanted to capture the memory I have of stepping out of the Vancouver airport and looking at the beautiful skyline as we drove through the city, it was such a windy day. I included a maple leaf to symbolize Canada and it was winter, so I had to add a few snowflakes. I have always found them to be very whimsical so one represents my very own little family, one for the opportunity to start my own nail business and provide for my family, and one for the friends I’ve made that have now become my extended family. Of course the Mexican flag waving in the back, because I always hold my home country in my mind and heart plus a starry sky that represents my beloved family and friends back in Mexico watching over me.

Congrats to Giselle for winning the seventh CND Last Chance challenge of the season! Giselle went up against April to hand paint significant life moment with matte top coat on a single nail tip. CND’s Jan Arnold chose the winner.

Jan says, “This nail is incredibly profound and it nearly brought me to tears. The fact you were able to tell the story of your amazing life on a single nail and do so with such clarity and powerful emotion is strikingly revealing about you, your talent, grateful spirit, and loving soul. This nail is really truly special and we thank you so much for sharing it with us. YOU are the winner of this weeks’ Last Chance challenge!!  Congratulations!”

This means Giselle will move on to compete against the next eliminated contestant. Find out Friday who that will be.
