Back to the Future: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Brushes

Congrats to Emily Nash on your Back to the Future winning creation.  Your design was a blast into the future of nail design.

Head judge Jan Arnold said, “The floating tip idea is brilliant! It stands out from the rest and is such an innovative, futuristic idea that is cohesive with the collection theme. I LOVE these nails! The speed of the video demo goes a bit too fast. I want to savor every detail while you’re working! Lovely job with a ton of great pro tips throughout the video and excellence in hand painting both on nails and skin.”

Judge and Game Master Winnie Huang said, “I WANT FLOATING TIPS. I am seriously obsessed with this! Really love your interpretation of this challenge! You did a great job painting on the henna design, it’s demonstrates great detail and line work. I love that you took to time to design your model’s hand, too, to make the shot more cohesive! I would have loved to see a different pose compared to the original campaign from the model but that’s very minor.”

Judge and Producer Beth Livesay said, “Great tips on symmetry and crisp linework. Nice use of ScrubFresh! PARTY nails – love the term and your interpretation of these. Floating nail tips can definitely be wearable and I think that IS a futuristic trend we could see more of. My only issue with this set is the editorial photo is a bit busy and the nails are too far away, but again, it brought to mind the correct ad campaign when I saw the finished product – it’s just an area to improve upon when shooting your own nail looks on a model.”

Season 7 Champion Giselle Cabellero said, “I love that you deconstructed the nail tips to give your look a more avant garde feel and that you added extra elements such as the metal rings to attach both sides of the tips. I’m so happy to see you were involved in every single part of it.”

Guest Judge Ashley Gregory said, “Emily, your Boho Spirit nail look became futuristic as soon as you created the floating tips! I really enjoyed the combination of hand-painting with a structural element and felt that you “futurized” the Boho Spirit collection ad nicely. Your commitment to symmetry didn’t go unnoticed, and I loved the mention of a dot guide in your demo video to aid the viewer in recreating the look.”

The nail artist who will be packing their paintbrushes this week is Asia.

But this won’t be the last you hear from Asia, as she will be going up against another finalist, eliminated in last week’s challenge, Elena. The two will move on to CND’s Last Chance Design Lab where they all have one last chance to stay in the competition. Good luck!
