CND Couture: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Brushes

Congrats to Emily Nash on your CND Couture winning creation. Your bespoke design drew rave reviews from the judges.

Head judge Jan Arnold said, “Spectacular use of your various mediums in the creation of the roses…three different styles and it all came together to create dramatic dimension and movement. Love how tight and square to frame you stay; and then the basket weave!  WOW…nicely done.  Gorgeous job on these!”

Judge and Game Master Winnie Huang said, “Love, love, love this piece! This technique you used for embroidery is superb. Love the shading and 3D element you incorporated into the nail. Thank you for taking the time to understand the brand and calling it liquid and powder.”

Judge and Producer Beth Livesay said, “Nice use of Vinylux and explanation of why. That basket weave is crazy – thank you for doing that in 3-D and not just painting it. Emily is such a gifted handpainter, so I just feel like she could have chosen a look that played more to her strengths and sense of color. I applaud her for doing something less predictable for her, though.”

Season 7 Champion Giselle Cabellero said, “Your video is great and there’s lots of teachable moments; please give us more of that and talk us through your process more in depth. My one comment on the tips would be that when working with this size you must consider that adding anything onto them will definitely create bulk so perhaps narrowing them by filing them off a bit beforehand will give you a more delicate and refined look, for example on the weave nail a narrower nail tip would allow the final nail to maintain its shape after adding the bulk of the texture. Fantastic job nonetheless and definitely reads couture!”

The 3d basket weave nail was executed with precision. Definitely handcrafted and the overall look is so simple, yet clean and exaggerated! Great video demo. The nail artists who will be packing their paintbrushes this week are…Ashleigh and Chloe.

But this won’t be the last you hear from these two talented artists!  They will go up against another finalist, eliminated in last week’s challenge, Marie-Louise. The three will move on to CND’s Last Chance Design Lab where they all have one last chance to stay in the competition. Good luck!
