Harajuku Punk: The Top 2 and the Bottom 2

Challenge #8, Harajuku Punk, asked the finalists to take their inspiration from two sources—the amazing Jan Arnold’s personal style AND a winning nail look from Season 7 Champ, Giselle.

In no specific order, the Top 2 are:

Emily: These nails are being called ‘the ultimate Janicure’ by the judges. The detachable earrings and necklace (plus a tiny bit of bondage style) were all fave elements.  Your work, always clean, balanced and well-thought out, was no different for this challenge. Also, your video really showed off the work—and you—to great advantage.  Excellent!

Stephanie: The opening of your video with the nail on tiny hangers really brought home the ‘wearable’ nature of these nails.  Judges agreed that the small touches—the bow and skirt combo, the beads—show great commitment to the challenge.  Remember to credit your inspiration!

And at the bottom are:

Jessica: Judges thought you definitely pushed the edges, and you created nails full of design elements and color.  The shape was a bit of a distraction for one judge but your brass knuckles were called ‘one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in NTNA’ by another.  Really great pro tip—putting Brisa in the fridge!

Silvia: Judges saw plenty of punk but less Harajuku.  You made some bold choices and you stepped out of your hand-painting comfort zone, which is great. The Brisa pins you make were called ‘so very cool and very punk.’ Your video editing could have been a bit tighter to capture everything.  It was difficult to really see the dramatic feel of these nails.
