Solar Power: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Brushes

Congrats to Jessica Warznyiak (@oohnicenails) on your “Solar Power” winning creation. Your design was out of this world!

Head judge Jan Arnold said, “Your approach is brilliant in using the various sized planets at the lunula to reflect the various size matrix’ that nails have. NICE!! The attention to detail on the planets is stunning. They look just like the actual planets! I do think that these nails could have pushed a little farther, perhaps with a sharper shape and a bit more length to add even more edge. LOVE that you did NOT do a galaxy background, like everyone else…love the crushed uneven, rocky and somewhat sinister space dust background.”

Judge and Game Master Winnie Huang said, “SPACE DUST?! What is this magic?! I NEED them. LOOOVE that you went 3D with Brisa and made the planets so realistic looking! The way you create the texture with efile is AWESOME! Watch out for your narration as sometimes it’s a little hard to understand. And remember that it has to be more instructional, rather than a conversation. Thank you for your brilliance. I am obsessed.”

Judge and Producer Beth Livesay said, “Love the big planet baubles at the base of the nail. You wore a star necklace for your video : ) REAL SPACE DUST! What a great addition to this set! Your Venus nail looks almost exactly like the image with the painting – great job! I appreciate that you played with scale for this set. The painting of Earth is also mesmerizing. I like the choice of the ombre and space dust for the base of the nail, but it’s too safe. I know you went big with your planets, but more art/technique on the base could have made this even more impactful.”

Season 7 Champion Giselle Cabellero said, “We got lots of planet submissions for this challenge and I believe the way you painted the features on your planets was the most accurate and detailed– out of this world! If anything I would have loved for the nails themselves to be a bit more refined because they seem a bit bulky on your model’s nails, however I still think the texture and size works well with the whole concept. I mean, how cool that you added space dust. Great job on your video, I love the close shots and your descriptiveness. ”

Guest Judge and Season 7 NTNA 1st Runner Up Stella Sampson said, “Inspiration and execution!! The details on the planets are amazing! I was so happy to see that you did not create a galaxy effect! Real crushed stones?? TOO COOL, plus the ombre effect totally added to that textured, perfect background! Regarding the shapes, be careful while sculpting as they were sculpted a little bulky. Loved the different sized planets and it was really nice to see the little photo of the final design on the side while you were creating it! Well done! I only wish you wore gloves and keep in mind when editing the videos, to apply audio transitions as the transitions
from the music to your voiceovers were a little annoying.”

Unfortunately, Elena will be packing up her paintbrushes, but she will participate in a Last Chance still to come!
