For Season 8’s  Last Chance Design Lab challenge sponsored by CND, Asia Bloodworth and LaTara Hayes are battling it out one-on-one to see who has a chance of staying in the competition.

CND’s Jan Arnold will select her favorite look.

All Last Chance challenges are done on a single nail tip. Contestants are also asked to describe their looks. There are no other elements to this battle.

For this Challenge, Asia and LaTara were given these instructions:

CND Last Chance #2: The Myth, the Legend

Nailandia is a mythical place, but just because it’s not real, doesn’t mean we can’t bring it to life. For this Last Challenge, bring a mythical creature to life on a single nail tip using any CND mediums.

Asia:

The mythical creature I chose is Pan. Pan is the god of the wild, shepherds, flocks, nature of mountain wilds and companion of the nymphs. The word “Panic” is derived from Pan. The Greek deity Pan was also one of the sources in the creation of Peter Pan.

In the magical forest of Nailandia, you may run into this mystical god of the forest, granting you safe passage through the woods. Pan can also be found playing rustic music and getting his hooves manicured in the salons of Nailandia.

For the process of the nail, I began with splitting and shaping the tip of a stiletto nail, turning it into the shape of Pan’s horns. With acrylic liquid and powder, I sculpted Pan’s bust and added detail to his facial features using CND Shellac.

Then, I added detail to Pan’s skin tone to give texture and depth. For Pan’s horns, I built the form of the horns using liquid and powder then using a sculpting tool to add texture. With CND Vinylux, CND Shellac and Non-Stick Parchment Paper, I painted large squares and cut long strips to make Pan’s hair.

Lastly for Pan’s goatee, I cut the tip of a stiletto nail, using CND Vinylux to add detailing and texture, then attached the detailed tip on Pan’s face to be represented as his goatee.

LaTara:

As a child I always believed in unicorns. Unicorns are beautiful, majestic and feminine. That’s why, for this challenge, “The Myth, the Legend,” Nailandia reminds me of unicorns.

A unicorn is the first creature to come to mind when I think Nailandia being that it’s a mythical place and a unicorn is a mythical creature that embodies beauty.

I have always envisioned myself living in a euphoric place like Nailandia. N is for nostalgia; when I think of unicorns, the mythical creature of Nailandia, it makes me nostalgic and brings me back to my childhood.

A is for awesome, when I allow my mind to travel to Nailandia it makes me feel awesome.

I is for immense, which represents the immense joy I feel entering this final challenge.

L is for love, for all the love I’ve been receiving from clients, family, friends and peers. Now I’m starting to see the hard work of my nail artistry taking off.

A is also for amazing, I’m continuously amazed at how much I am able to push the envelope in this challenge and keep pushing forward.

N is also for nurturing; I am a nurturing person and I definitely want to carry this characteristic with me to Nailandia.

D is for desire, the desire that I have to win this challenge and really escape to Nailandia.

I is also for iconic, because this nail design that I chose this week is iconic. Shout out to Jan for keeping me in the race! Jan’s unique style taught me it’s the new normal to break the rules for nail fashion.

Finally, A is for asset. An asset has value which is something I can add to this competition. I really deserve making it to the end, I have been fighting for this. Nail art is my life and these are all the things I’d bring with me to Nailandia!

And the winner is..

Asia, who will now move onto compete against other eliminated contestant(s) next week!

Of your winning submission, Head Judge (and only judge for Last Chance) Jan Arnold says: Asia, well you did it again!  Your story-telling, sculpting and artistry is excellent and I’m totally in love with PAN!  The bust, horns and dimensional detail is very well done, and once again, it could adorn a nail (as an example, my nail 😊) or a lapel as a perfect wearable accessory.  I love Pans hair so much too!!  Nicely done!! Xo -Jan
