Beauty International Dusseldorf is a gigantic show — there were more than 1,250 exhibitors from 22 countries and the show filled five large convention center halls.

Robert Arthur and Richard Hurter were familiar faces in the sea of nail booths in Germany. The electric file company had a small booth compared to some of the massive ones on the show floor, but the guys were busy all three days of the show.
There was an entire foot care hall at the show and, like Allpresan, many of them had a medical feel. Pedicures in Europe are less of a spa-service and more of a “medi-spa” service.
CND had an impressive array of Shellac colors for sale.
Ekatarina Schmidt, who owns an Alessandro Nail Lounge in Dusseldorf, showed off this new Alessandro two-handed gel lamp. In addition to curing UV gels, it also has built-in ventilation, a nail tech light, and is ergonomic for both the tech and client.
Another familiar face, Trang Nguyen, was on the show floor with his company Odyssey Nail Systems, as well as in the competition arena, coaching some of his team’s competitors.

The Nail Fashion Show Cafe, sponsored by German nail manufacturer Alessandro, featured fun videos of fingers adorned with nail art “walking” the runway. It was fun to watch while you grabbed lunch and took a minute to rest.
There were several companies selling interesting brace systems for ingrown toenails. This one from 3TO has several options for various levels of ingrown toenails.
California-based nail tech Elsbeth Schuetz showed attendees at the Nail Selection booth how to create simple nail art designs with brush-on gel-polish and glitter.
Dutch company Garrarufa offers full-service fish spas. While they’re not allowed in many U.S. states, I thought this luxury pedicure unit (with fish for the hands and feet) looked very cool. In addition to the pedicure units and fish, the company does installation and training on maintaining the fish and a healthy environment.
Catherine Frimmel’s mother started Catherine Nail Collection 34 years ago. The company’s “only gels” philosophy shows strong with more than 250 colors. Frimmel, who now runs the company with her brother, told me neons are really popular in Germany right now.
Nail Selection is a family-owned German nail company that manufacturers everything from gels and acrylics to nail art accessories, nail polish, and sundry items. The company was started by Andreas and Heike Still 15 years ago. Heike has been a nail tech for 24 years. Daughter Svenja and son Dennis also work for the company.
