What clients should I recommend wear nail extensions?

Answer

Nail enhancements can be recommended to most clients, but there are a few client types in particular for whom enhancements are a perfect fit. One such group is nail biters. Imagine the look on your client’s face when you take her bitten nails and apply a beautiful sculpted nail that makes her hands look gorgeous. For male nail biters, use a corrective acrylic powder that is opaque and looks natural. Enhancements are also a great option for clients whose nails have ridges that split. The enhancements will cover the ridges and let the client grow her nails out. The only people I don’t do enhancements on are clients who have beautiful natural nails. I don’t apply enhancements to anyone whose nails are healthy, knowing we can do natural nail manicures to keep the nails strong and beautiful. — Lynnette Madden owns Salon 29 in East Greenville, Pa.

How can I prevent lifting when my client's hands are constantly in water?

I have a client who is in the medical field so her hands are constantly in water. She has me keep the length of her acrylic nails short. No matter what I do, she always has at least one nail that comes off, and she always has lifting and gets water under the acrylic. I prep the nails correctly, I have a cuticle bit to clean the cuticle area, and I wipe the nail with alcohol, dehydrate the nail, and prime the nail. What should I do?
