Sunning, shopping, sleeping in — how would you spend an unexpected day off? NAILS asked readers: If you were suddenly given a day off, how would you spend it? Turns out a surprising number of you would spend the day working on your nail business.
I live in Chicago, so I would love to go downtown to Millennium Park and the beach. Then I’d finish the day off with dinner at one of our great restaurants!
MICHELLE MOODY, Spa Bleu, Chicago
I would sleep in until 11 a.m., then I’d lie in bed and read my NAILS Magazine. And I’d google all sorts of nail sites to see all the wonderful work others are doing. Then I’d do my own nails. At 3 p.m., I’d pick the boys up from school and spend some time with them.
MONIQUE SCOTT, Phoenix Hairstylists, Balhannah, South Australia
Unexpected days off from work this year have been used for home improvement. We’ve been upgrading and fixing everything in our home — from new flooring to new doors, new lighting, new kitchen, paint, hardware, etc. Next project is the bathroom!
DANA GONZALEZ-KURTZ, Artistry of the Nail @ Salon Shibumi, Portland, Ore.
I would most likely practice my 3-D flowers and try new designs. Or I would do my own nails and then go play with my son outside!
TINA FOX, Terrific 10 by Tina, Knoxville, Tenn.
I would love a day off to sit and soak up the sun — instead of soaking up the fluorescent lights in my mani/pedi room! ANNA RYDER, Annabella’s Nail Spa, Fulton, Ill.
I would probably sit around wondering what design I was going to do next on my own nails. My brain never has a day off from that!
DIANNA MEDEIROS, The Make-Up Bar, Cherry Hill, N.J.
I would certainly treat myself to a pedicure, just to find out again what that feels like. After that I would head out on the great Puget Sound to catch a salmon for dinner. I’d enjoy the beautiful place I live in.
CORTNEY YOUNG, Polished, Tacoma, Wash.
I’d spend the day on the back of my hubby’s motorcycle taking in the fall leaves on the backside of Triangle Lake. How wonderful that day off would be!
TAMMY GAUTHIER, The Nail Nook, Eugene, Ore.
Weather permitting, I would spend the day with my husband playing golf, having a few beers, and just enjoying the day. We don’t get enough of those days! If it were a snowy day, I would want to spend the day in my recliner watching the “Lonesome Dove” series and ordering dinner in with my husband.
KATHY WAGNER, Frank’s On First, Casper, Wyo.
I always try to do something relaxing for myself but I end up working on my networking and promotional websites, updating specials and the newest products out on the market and e-mailing the updates and specials to my clients. I still try to get motivated with some well-needed exercise outdoors or I just go to the quaint private beach near my house and read a book, NAILS Magazine, or a skin care magazine for new ideas to bring back to the salon.
LINDA TABELLA, Melanie & Co. Salon Spa, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
I would spend my day off with my dog. I work so late that I don’t get to do much with her and I feel bad. She is my best buddy!
LEISA DAVIS, Reflections Salon, Fresno, Calif.
I would do my own nails — and enjoy them until I’m back in acetone! CHRISTINA BILY New York Nail Company, Yardley, Pa.
If I was suddenly given the day off I would spend it getting pampered since that’s what I do for a living. I would enjoy a relaxing manicure, pedicure, massage, and facial. Oh, and a nice lunch with a glass of wine, of course. RONIEKA HOWELL Abstract Nails & Wellness Studio, Carmel, Ind.
I’d take time to get out to the beach and finally get a tan. My clients are always ragging on me because I’m so white! They always tell me there’s no excuse for me to be so white when I’m from Miami.
