Danielle Candido, lead nail artist for Morgan Taylor has worked with Betsey Johnson for two seasons and has done nails at Fashion Week for seven years (half of her nail career!). She and Betsey clearly get along, as the designer came out in person to thank her and Morgan Haile and Taylor Daniel for their partnership.
Candido created nail art inspired by the shoes in the collection using three Morgan Taylor polish colors in addition to gems and foils.
Because Johnson loves a layered look, the nail colors were layered on top of each other. Johnson even sported Morgan Taylor nails herself, with Man of the Moment and Rarest of Rubies on her designer tips. "Betsey loves glitter!" says Candido about doing the celebrity's nails, "She has no limits for nails!"
The biggest reveal behind the wedding nails is the underside, which is blue, of course. "The underside color is becoming a trend with Betsey," explains Morgan Haile, "Last season the underside was a bright purple."
In addition to the fun nail tips, the Morgan Taylor team also brought along polish-shaped signs to hold up with their hashtag #NailedNYFW. The Morgan Taylor team then posed with the polish bottles for photos backstage.
The entire back area was decorated with wedding-themed images to get artists in the mood for the show.
"Soaking up the beauty backstage and seeing the dynamics of it all are my favorite part of Fashion Week," says Taylor Daniel. Haile loves seeing all parts of the puzzle come together. "We usually just see one part [the nails] but I love seeing it all come together with hair, makeup, and clothes," she says. It took a team of nine nail techs to make the nails at Betsey Johnson come together. We love that Betsey says "I do" to nails!"
