Instead of having coffee in bed in the morning, pour it in a thermos and take it with you on a morning walk before work.

Walk to a farmer’s market, stroll the stands, and do your healthy food shopping for the week. If you don’t live within walking distance of one, park your car a half-mile away and then walk the remaining distance to and from.

Drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water daily. Hydration is a key component of weight loss, and with all those trips to the bathroom, your mileage will add up.

If it’s too cold or icy out, put on comfortable walking shoes and do laps inside your local shopping mall. Treat yourself to some window shopping along the way.

Buy an inexpensive mini step-climber and set it up in front of the TV to get some steps in while watching your favorite shows.

Set yourself reminders every hour during your day to get up and take a three-to-five minute walking break.

Volunteer to babysit a two-year-old for the day. ‘Nuff said.

Recruit a friend to go on a nature hike, or meet up with the Sierra Club. Visit www.sierraclub.org/near-you to find a chapter in your area.

Take a walking lunch break. Find a park or just do some laps around your block.

Attend a trade show. You will effortlessly put in at least 10k steps walking the show floor.
