As originally reported by Bella Sugar, Sergeant Major of the Army Raymond F. Chandler III posted on his Facebook page that he and his team will be revising the army’s grooming standards over the next few months. He says, “We are especially looking at Chapter 1, which deals with grooming standards. What parts of that chapter do you want to see changed? Give me your thoughts on earrings for females in ACUs, or if French-tipped fingernails should be allowed. What about tattoos? Do visible tattoos in ACUs (neck, hands, etc.) keep us from being professional soldiers?”

Personally, I think having a French manicure, or any other well-done nail look, is great for boosting morale. Plus, in my world, having well-done nails makes you more professional, not less.

This story reminds me of SPC Amy Feltzin of the 1249th Battalion who was so ecstatic when Young Nails sent over some mani•Q gel-polish. “It is the greatest invention — totally soldier-proof!” Feltzin exclaimed. With all of the other sacrifices our troops are making, I don’t think they should have to give up their nails too.
