On May 13, students at the London College of Beauty Therapy (LCBT) will attempt to set The Guinness World Record for “most nails filed and varnished in eight hours.” Sara Wilcox, a PR and marketing assistant for Guinness World Records, told NAILS: “This is a newly recognized record category and there is no current holder. The minimum requirement is 200 people.” LCBT will attempt to earn the record by going well above the minimum: The school is attempting to do more than 2,000 of the nail services within the allotted time.

LCBT is staging the event to support the charity Wellbeing of Women, which funds medical research into women’s health issues. Eileen Cavalier, founder and CEO of LCBT, said in a press release, “This is a fun way of helping to raise concerns about women’s health issues. Although we plan to carry out at least 2,000 nail treatments, a daunting challenge, we are, nevertheless, confident that each recipient will receive an excellent and enjoyable treatment.” The file and polish will be done for free, but donations will be accepted.

The school is trying attract as many volunteers as possible (men can get a buff instead of a polish, which will still count toward the record) to get filed and polished between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on May 13.
