Following up with you on the competition gig, in the last blog I mentioned needing a model and figuring out how to get a sponsor. First I went looking for a model as nothing else would be needed without one. I posted a message on the Beauty Tech email list and got a reply from LaTia Barrett, whom you may recall from the NAILS Student Blog in 2011/2012. It’s a small world, isn’t it? I’ve sent LaTia a care package of Cuticle Eraser and Solar Oil to get her nail plates and eponychiums looking good as you can't apply any oils after the polish application in the competition. So excited that she is going to help me out this way!
Having a model confirmed meant it was time to step up and register, truly committing myself to the gel-polish competition at Premiere Orlando. Wow, that is so crazy and it's feeling so real now! Next step is to find a sponsor. I asked my competition mentor Guin Deadman what I should ask for from a sponsor. She is so amazing at sharing her time and information; if I do better than last place it will definitely be a credit to her help! I plan to use CND Shellac in the competition... I know this has probably shocked you right out of your seat ;) Since CND is my preference for nail coating product, it made sense to start with them when looking for a sponsor. I sent an email request and was so grateful to receive an affirmative reply! I can’t think of a better sponsor than CND and I'm excited to do my best in my first big competition with a product I adore!

Guin tells me that the next stage of my journey is to practice. This means one hand red and one hand French with the application taking less than 30 minutes. Thankfully PEP (cuticle work, shaping, and ScrubFresh) can be done ahead of time. I plan to do the cuticle work and shaping the day before since the competition is so early in the morning. LaTia sent me a great photo of her nails with a lime green on them which tells me her skin tone is compatible with cool colors, I’m thinking for a cream red to use CND Shellac Wildfire, what do you think?
If you have competed before, I would love any and all advice, if you have not competed before, please come along on the journey with me and feel free to do a little vicarious living. I will keep you all updated here on the blog as well as on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Follow @CNDWorld on the same social media to catch posts from my official sponsor as well!

Being one of the first states to open left the salon owners to scramble to learn a lot of things on their own and many have been generous in sharing things they have figured out to help make operating in the COVID-19 world more systematic and understandable.
It has been quite a while since I made a video for the e-file chronicles so an update to that seemed in order. The latest installment is removing gel-polish from an enhancement.
