I came to work a few days ago and found a new computer on my desk. What should have been a happy surprise instead induced a mild case of panic. I’m very much a creature of habit. I knew my old computer had been tweaked over the last few years so it was completely familiar and comfortable. The new computer was something I would have to adapt to. Damn.

This got me thinking about how nail techs must feel about their favorite products and familiar systems. It must be no small feat changing product lines or learning a new technique, like gels or airbrushing.

The bottom line is it’s three days later and I’ve become friends with my new computer. The transition wasn’t seamless and I had help from the experts we have here on staff. But I’m pleased to be working with the latest tools and I’ve even learned a few new tricks. I think the same can be said for learning a new nail technique — refining your skills and expanding your repertoire is necessary to keep growing, to keep yourself and your clients enthused and feeling fresh.
