Have you been to the NW Nail Retreat on Vashon Island yet? If you missed them, I have lots of videos and pictures on my Facebook. Be sure to stop by and check them out. The FB live of the blindfolded nail polishing competition is especially funny!

This year’s retreat had a lot of great things to offer. It was a unique learning space as always, and a peaceful place to decompress and destress while learning. The retreat is located at Camp Burton on Vashon Island in Puget Sound, just off the coast of Seattle. It is extremely easy to access and boasts the beautiful colors of fall, inspiring #naileyes left and right.

It wouldn’t be a retreat without s’mores! There was a wonderful fire with great conversation, and Doug Schoon himself even helped get the fire going!

The meals at the retreat are each unique and themed, and one night there were fortune cookies for dessert. Vicki Peters was one of the people that helped with the brainstorming to create the event and it felt like she had a hand in some of the fortunes, mine felt like a message straight from her.

There were over fifty classes for nail professionals to choose from that were included in the cost of the retreat. Room and board is also included, so it is a lot like an all-inclusive work vacation. The classes ranged from nail structure to art, pedicure fundamentals to specialized foot care, e-file use to business, and social media to press releases. There was something for everyone and choices at every skill level. Raffles are done at every meal with prizes from Angel Feet, LCN, Famous Names, Orly, and Aerovex!

Doug Schoon was the featured keynote speaker and he presented some excellent information, including some new things that have recently been discovered. Make sure you are following him on Doug Schoon’s Brain https://www.facebook.com/DougSchoonsBrain/ to stay in the know as he shares a lot of knowledge freely with professionals.

I will leave you with some photos that give you a glimpse into life at the retreat. Give it some thought for 2020 as it will be the 10-year anniversary. It is a wonderful way to network while enjoying education and I hope to see you somewhere soon!

Reopening? Know Your Numbers

For those of you that like a little data with your info, here is some really interesting information from salon owner Michele Baker in Georgia. Being one of the first states to open left the salon owners to scramble to learn a lot of things on their own and many have been generous in sharing things they have figured out to help make operating in the COVID-19 world more systematic and understandable.
