Last year was my first visit to the Nail Tech Event of the Smokies and I was so excited to see a large nails-only event. It is basically a small show just for nail professionals — no loud hair booths each trying to drown the other out leaving us to struggle to hear each other! I will be there again this year and am always in awe of all the things Jill Wright (nail tech and event coordinator) finds time to do for the nail industry. She has created a special loyalty card for attendees. This will help give nail companies an idea of who attends and if it is worth their while to do a nails-only show. Jill agreed to do a guest blog and give you all the info on this ingenious idea! — Holly

In case you haven't heard about it yet, the Nail Tech Event of the Smokies has grown from a networking event into the East Coast's sole nails-only trade show. I've been a nail tech for 26+ years, so as the event coordinator I'm always trying to figure out ways to promote “nail tech pride”, plus give the attending techs, educators, and company owners the most bang for their buck.
The new “Event Loyalty Card” is the first of its kind in the USA designed specifically for our beauty industry. We created it to:
1. Build brand loyalty with the participating nail companies on the back of the card.
2. Give techs a product price break for the entire year at all shows, networking events and by phone/online orders.
3. Promote the Nail Tech Event of the Smokies to as many techs as possible.

The Event Loyalty Card will be distributed by these participating nail companies at upcoming 2013 shows, and don't be surprised to see it inside your shipment orders placed online or by phone. Each attendee of the 6th Nail Tech Event of the Smokies will receive one at the registration desk on August 25th in Gatlinburg, Tenn. If this new concept is well received, then we'll continue it with a mix of different companies each year, so it won't become boring. Please spread the word to all your nail tech friends to ask for The Event Loyalty Card from these participating company booths at the next show and don't forget to grab one for yourself!
Also because I'm still a working tech, facing all the challenges you face, I know money is tight for each of us (including the nail companies) and we have to be choosy where we decide to spend our educational dollars. I hope we've given you another reason to join us August 25th-26th in the resort town of Gatlinburg, Tenn., for the 6th Nail Tech Event of the Smokies!
You can get ALL the details, plus see TONS of fun photos at www.nailtechevent.com. Thanks in advance for all your help and I hope to meet you there!

Have you ever heard of the stages of grief? With everything going on, we are grieving our “normal”. That means you should give yourself permission to feel the way you feel.

For those of you that like a little data with your info, here is some really interesting information from salon owner Michele Baker in Georgia. Being one of the first states to open left the salon owners to scramble to learn a lot of things on their own and many have been generous in sharing things they have figured out to help make operating in the COVID-19 world more systematic and understandable.
It has been quite a while since I made a video for the e-file chronicles so an update to that seemed in order. The latest installment is removing gel-polish from an enhancement.
