Happy New Year! Time for things to start anew and have fresh beginnings. It is also a great time to do a quick check around the salon to make note of who needs continuing education this year, who will need to send in for a license renewal, is the salon up for a license renewal, etc.

It is also a good time to start gathering everything you need for taxes, finding all those receipts and tip counts, making an appointment with the accountant and getting things in place to stay on top of things.

If you are going to be needing class hours in the next year, look to book them now instead of waiting until the last minute when classes may be full of procrastinators. If there are eight or more people in your salon looking to learn the same thing, talk to your local distributor — some have connections with manufacturers to get you private classes right in the salon.

Make it a successful new year by taking care of these important business and legal needs upfront so you don’t have to worry about them the remainder of the year!
