Hello Nail World,
It’s me — that girl ready to get out of school and start working. This week I was tested on nail structure, nail anatomy, and nail growth. I received 100% and feel confident now that I can successfully discuss the structure, composition, and nail growth with anyone.

Only FIVE tests left to go. Due to the fact that I attend part-time I am tested bi-weekly. Next week will be nail disorders and nail diseases. I was told to start learning and remember “ony-, ony-, ony-.” Theory and studying is not as bad as I had anticipated; even as a single mother I have time to study. Well, once Bella goes to sleep.
My birthday was August 7th and I received a CND UV lamp and some CND products. I thought my LCN LED light was the bomb, but this Shellac has me amazed. I have found ways to incorporate art into my Shellac manicures on myself. I am not permitted to use my products or lights at school. This is why I practice a lot at home right on myself.
Nail technology is a great career path for those who can get the “DRIVE Attitude” (Dr. Dale Henry): Determination, Responsiveness, Innovation, Vision and Effectiveness. I want to incorporate art and sales in every service I perform. I am determined to do this and hope the clients have a good response to all my future innovations because I will effectively deal with and dazzle my clients with each service. Management and sales are a main vision of mine, but my dream is to make my own lacquer! The salon has been slow, medium would be nice but slam-packed makes your day fly by and you feel more accomplishment. I left a bag of mine unattended and sure enough it got snatched. Moral of this is never leave your personal possessions alone because when they are gone it’s nobody’s fault but your own.
I’m including some pictures of nails I did with my new Shellac. They don’t teach you this in school. SNAP.
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
