Offer your clients a little extra sparkle this week by creating nail art with mylar.

Follow these steps from Los Angeles-based nail tech and nail blogger Merrick Fisher (@merricures) for the how-to.

1. Prep the nail, apply base gel, and cure.

2. Apply two coats of a base color that complement the color mylar you’re using. For example, if you’re using blue mylar, use blue as base color.

3. Apply a nice thick coat of a builder or base gel. Don't cure!

4. While the gel is still wet, apply the triangular mylar pieces in alternating positions, one facing up, the other facing down, until you've covered the entire nail.  Once satisfied, cure.

5. Trim off any excess mylar that sticks out beyond the nail bed.

6. Cover the entire nail well with a generous base gel making sure to completely cover all edges of the mylar, and cure.

7. Remove the inhibition layer and buff the nail using a fine buffer. This removes any sharp edges which could cause lifting.

8. Wipe off any dust with alcohol, apply gel top coat, cure, and voila!
