The craziness that is Fashion Week has moved on from New York to Europe, but we are still left talking about the nails that walked the runways a week ago. Here are the major trends we observed:
1. Matte
Matte is back in a big way. Several designers opted to have the shine removed from their models’ hands by having manicurists apply matte top coat over completed designs.

Zoya Noot with Matte Topcoat (Matte unavailable – for show only) and Zoya Edyta Chevron “Arrow” tip.

A layer of Essie's Midnight Cami, then a coat of Mademoiselle was topped off with a layer of Matte About You for the Costello Tagliapietra show.
2. Nude
Nude nails are still a Fashion Week staple. Several designers collaborated with nail polish companies to create barely there looks that wouldn’t take the spotlight off the clothing.

With women’s day-to-night needs in mind, designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen of Elizabeth and James selected OPI's Passion for models’ nails and toes.

A sweet Essie manicure consisting of a coat of Limo-scene, Mademoiselle, and Good to Go added polish to every DKNY look.
3. Glitz
From subtle shimmers to big bursts of bling, the runway lit up with these eye-catching effects.

Essie's Eternal Optomist was capped off with a layer of Allure at Jenny Packam. For a dazzling effect, add a coat of A Cut Above and a coat of Set in Stones at the edge of the nail near the cuticle.

Hawaiian prints and bright colors at Cynthia Rowley were made even more lively when paired with Essie‘s color and Luxeffects.

The nails CND created for the Blonds explores the paradox of strong animation set against a backdrop of iridescent neon yellow, chrome metallics, and holographic teals in reptilian armor-like textures and protective spiked shapes.
4. Nail Art
Nail art might not be dead after all. Some designers took risks by allowing manicurists to create neat designs on models' tips.

Essie created a graffiti art manicure for the Veronica Beard collection.

Rebecca Minkoff's spring collection was inspired by Frida Kahlo, so it only made sense that Essie nail artists translate Day of the Dead designs to tips.

The Spring collection at Cushnie Et Ochs was inspired by straight jackets. Celebrity manicurist Patricia Yankee decided to create a nail design that looked like strap buckles against a straight jacket. She used China Glaze Dandy Lyin' Around topped with Moonlight and a band of sterling silver.

CND’s partnership with Michael van der Ham this season produced four soft-focus nail looks inspired by a deeply romantic and impressionistic garden.

Two shades of Zoya were used to create waves on nails at Peter Som.
