CND created picture-perfect nail art for the Opening Ceremony on Sunday. The fashion presentation was held in a gallery and honored the early work of legendary film director Spike Jonze. Since the collection paid tribute to Jonze’s photography, nails were fashioned after 35-mm film strips and Kodak’s color palette. The final nails were the result of CND’s Design Lab team and Opening Ceremony’s design consultant, celebrity nail artist Naomi Yasuda. Vertical and horizontal striping techniques using Vinylux created the Kodak nails. The film nails were made by using a decoupage technique in black and white colors with intricate framework detailing.

For Libertine, nails took a more textured and elaborate turn. Libertine’s fall/winter collection referenced mythology and Indian culture, leading to a shimmering assortment of glittering, molten artwork. CND liquid and powder was used to sculpt designs while Vinylux coated the nails, and Additives were used to embellish them. Unconventional materials were also used to craft these unique nails. Gold studs, a shark tooth, and chandelier chains made up the nail looks. In total, 2,500 hand-placed paillettes, 600 feet of gold chain, and 110 individually sculpted shark teeth made these mythical nails a reality.

As part of her prize for winning the competition, CND welcomed NAILS Next Top Nail Artist winner Lavette Cephus to join CND's Design Lab for Fashion Week. Since Libertine was the basis of the final NAILS NTNA challenge, Cephus was congratulated by designer Johnson Hartig himself.
