Orientation — to prepare you for whatever your endeavor is.

I went to the nail technology orientation for Tricoci University today. I almost got emotional when I drove near the school. Yes, emotional. I have been praying and waiting for this day for at least five months now. It took me a while to enroll at the school (I went for my interview way back in September 2009). But I did it! I am now officially a Tricoci University nail tech student!!
Anyway, when I arrived at the school, I was greeted by the staff — the General Manager, Admissions Counselor, the Student Assistance Coordinator, Financial Aid (although we don’t get financial aid in the nail tech program) and a host of students and teachers. They made me feel so welcomed! I was nervous about who I would encounter, but everyone seemed so cool.
So during the orientation, we ate (pizza), introduced ourselves (my class has a beautiful and eclectic mix of women), and got down to business — the student handbook. Ms. Katie, the GM, took us through what we are to know and expected to follow while we are nail tech students for the next four months — my GPA HAS to be 85% and my attendance has to be good. My goals are my GPA will be 100% and my attendance will be GREAT (I am a bit of an overachiever).
At the end of the orientation, Ms. Katie showed us our OPI student kits. My jaw hit the ground! These beautiful rolling kits have EVERYTHING!! We don’t get them until our actual first day of class (next Wednesday) so I will definitely go through the whole thing and take a lot of pictures. I can’t wait to play in it!! All I can say is WOW!
Overall, I am super excited to be a Tricoci University nail tech student and can’t wait till Wednesday! This orientation DEFINETLY prepared me for the next four months!

I’m going to be a nail tech (doing the cabbage patch)!
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
