I've learned that being the first to introduce yourself or crack a joke can make the first day less stressful. It breaks the ice and makes everyone a little less tense.

My classmates practicing spa manicures.
Everyone knows the feeling of starting something new, whether it’s going back to school, starting a new job, or going on a first date. Change can be scary, and now, you have to worry about the first day of nail school. It can be nerve wracking, but we just have to get through it. Thank goodness we have each other!
I've learned that being the first to introduce yourself or crack a joke can make the first day less stressful. It breaks the ice and makes everyone a little less tense. Another thing is to keep in mind is that not everyone will have the same outlooks or opinions as you. Plus the majority (if not all) of the class consists of females, so that can be quite a lot of estrogen under one roof.

The important part is to remember why you enrolled into beauty school to begin with. Stay positive! Nothing in life worth having comes easy, but the question you might ask yourself is, "Is this worth it?"
Of course it's worth it!
The first week comes and goes quickly. On my first day, I was little nervous but my doubts quickly went out the window once it was time to open our nail kits. It was like Christmas! For the rest of the week, we started learning the basics: Infection control, manicures (basic and spa), and the warming up process. It seems like graduation is so far away but it'll be here before we know it! Let's stay strong and NAIL this program!
I performed this basic manicure on a classmate.
P.S. Just some pointers that may help you throughout your time as a student from my experience:
Try to smile more and worry less.
I work at Hard Rock Café, and they have a motto I love, which is “Take time to be kind!”
Be there for others, you never know when you'll need someone to be there for you.

The way I see it is we're all here to better ourselves so let's make the best out of it! Get to know your classmates and students in other programs! Share your excitement, sometimes all someone needs is a little motivation! It's not just school, this is a new career! We all need to make every moment count!
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
