We had a short week this week because we had Monday off for Christmas. On Tuesday, we went over pedicures and the steps involved. My instructor also taught us about paraffin wax and how to perform the service. I tried the paraffin myself and I loved it. The wax is warm so it relaxes your hand and sends the relaxation signal throughout your entire body, and after you take it off your skin is extremely soft. I performed a pedicure service on my practice feet. I got the pedicure steps memorized, so it comes naturally now. It’s funny because when I first learned the steps, I thought there were too many and that I would forget, but since I have been doing it repeatedly, it's programmed in my mind.
On Thursday, my instructor demonstrated how she does a pedicure. After she finished, it was our turn to perform a pedicure on each other. There wasn't enough time for me and my partner to perform the service, so we're doing it next week. Also, next week we have our big test. Everything we've learned about in this unit is going to be on the test, which includes chemistry, nail product chemistry, electricity, manicures, and pedicures. That's our written portion of the test. Then we have our practical part of the test, which is performing the steps of a manicure and the steps of a pedicure. The written is going to be in two parts, so we have a written and a practical on Tuesday and a written and a practical on Thursday. I'm studying a lot so I can get high scores on my tests. Next week is going to be a very busy week. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and thank you so much for reading my blog each week! See you in week 11!
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
