I performed a fill on my instructor's nail.
Wow, this week flew by. On Monday, we continued to work on sculpted pink-and-whites. I'm getting better, because of how time consuming they are, they're not my favorite service right now. My goal is to reduce my spent on pink-and-whites since they're are a very popular service.
We also practiced two-week fills. We didn't have any live models for this assignment, so our instructor allowed each of us to fill in one of her nails since she needed a fill anyway. I was a little nervous because I thought about how bad it would be if I ruined my instructor's acrylic, but I kept in mind that I've been practicing. I did well! Being confident in your abilities is very important.
The next day, our assignment was to complete a full set of tipped pink-and-whites on a live model. My model was a nail bitter, which is a challenge in itself. I've worked on this particular student before, so it allowed me to be more comfortable working on her hands, which was helpful. While the service wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I wish I would have used a natural-colored tip instead of the white. Because she was a nail bitter, the position stop (where the tip is adhered to the nail) covered half of her nail plate. I wanted to use the white tips for a guide but I realized white is not a good idea with nail bitters. Regardless, I had completed another full set! I was harder on myself than I should've been, but she loved them and that's what matters. I also checked on her nails at the end of the week and they were still looking good.

Wednesday was our module final, which the class always gets nervous for, but everyone passed again. I don't know why we get so nervous.
Our new instructor has been really adamant about working on live hands due to the fact that we are going to the floor in less than a week. My classmate did an overlay on my hand. I have to keep them short for my job as a server, but overall I love them. Shortly after that, I did a fill on another one of my classmates. I'm getting better and better every time.

I decided to end the week doing sculpted pink-and whites with a 3-D flower and I loved how they turned out.

Practice makes perfect and patience is a virtue. You may not be where you want to be now but that's where the journey is taking you to.

As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
I was fortunate enough to attend the three-day International Salon & Spa Expo (ISSE) held in Long Beach, Calif., January 26-28.
The first semester of nail school is now in the rear view mirror! I am now officially 50% done with my education to become a licensed nail technician.
We had two tests this week: 1) UV and LED Gels and 2) The Creative Touch.
This week we had a test on electric filing. We also received a lecture on UV and LED gels during the week (overlays and extensions).

During week seven we began performing nail services on clients.
During week six, we learned about nail product chemistry and the basics of electricity.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
During week four, we had lectures on pedicures and on skin structure, growth, and nutrition.
This week we received lectures on chemistry and liquid and powder enhancements (acrylic) and had our first hands-on lab with reallive people.
This week we had our first written tests (multiple choice) and our first practical (nail tips).
I survived my first week of nail school! Well, I assumed that I would. But you never know!

It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
It was a really exciting week for me, and I'm starting to see the finish line as I continue to progres.
