This week was a short week and it was test week. On Tuesday, we had two written exams, one on manicures and one on pedicures. I had a good feeling taking the tests – it felt easy. When I'm reading my assigned chapter in my Milady's textbook, I make sure I fully understand each chapter. It helps get all the information to stay in your brain and that helps when it's test time.
After we finished, I started to set up for a pedicure. I cleaned and disinfected the basin, filled the basin with water, and applied the foot soak to the water. Then I started to perform my pedicure. I had 30 minutes to do a basic pedicure and I finished in 30 minutes. Afterward, I cleaned and disinfected the basin and my implements.

On Thursday, we had our practicals. I did my manicure practical and my pedicure practical. Afterward, I got my pedicure done by one of my classmates. Then my instructor gave us back our results from our written test. I got a 94% on my manicure and a 92% on my pedicure! I feel so accomplished and so happy about my scores! I find out my results from my practicals next week. Also, next week we start a new unit, which is my last unit, and then I go to the senior floor. Since it's going by so fast, I started taking mock state board tests. I can remember enrolling in beauty school like it was yesterday and now I'm two months away from graduating.
The unit we are about to start is what I have been waiting for: monomer, polymer, UV gel, and my favorite – nail art. I can't wait to get more creative with nail art and different themes. Thank you for reading my blog every week. I truly appreciate it! I'll see you in Week 12!
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
