It's official! I am on the clinic floor! I passed my test with a 95%, and I had my first client on Saturday for a pedicure. I had to think back to when I first started and thought I wasn't going to be able to do pedicures. A little time and practice has paid off. I am a particular person so I wanted to ensure that I did a great job, and when I was done I was impressed with myself. You have to be proud of your work, right? I know I was!
I am becoming more and more comfortable with nail technology. Now I have friends, family, and co-workers asking me for tips and suggestions on nail services. It feels good to know that they trust me and support me 110%. I don't even realize how much I've learned until I begin having a conversation with people and they are engaged with what I'm saying. A lot of my conversations are around safety and building a stronger nail foundation for the enhancements they want. Now if only I can get everyone I know to stop peeling gel polish off of their natural nails.

Outside of my excitement about moving to the clinic floor, I had a pretty normal (by my definition) week. I think I'm going to do a pretty good job with polish because the more I do it, the more I love it. I did a polish job using my favorite color, which is purple, and I got excited!
I'm just glad that I'm almost halfway done--yes I am! It seems like August is right around the corner. Then I will be preparing to sit for the state boards. The excitement grows day-b-day! I'ts more than just becoming a nail technician...I am building a business and a brand. It will be a movement!
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
