For the first time, I was able to transfer the image in my head to the actual nail.

My first client this was was an elementary school teacher, who I gave a well-deserved spa pedicure including a scrub, mask, and massage.
What a week! Now that the five client project has been completed I haven’t felt as obligated to bring in clients every day. I still promote and advertise myself but I do feel like some pressure has been lifted. This hasn’t changed how busy I have been on the floor. I’m not sure if it’s because of how active I was during the five client project, but I’ve been getting appointments left and right. Monday started off with a pedicure which was nice because I haven’t done one of those in a while and it’s nice to do something simple sometimes. This client was a school teacher so I was glad to help her relax after a long day.
I performed a fill for aanother cosmetology student.
Tuesday came around and I f thought I would be free to work on some more nail art or fantasy nails. I was wrong. As I skimmed down the appointment list, I saw my name for a fill. I set up my station set up and I grabbed my client, a morning cosmology student. She had really long nails but it wasn’t bad to rebalance. We finished the fill with a midnight blue gel-polish by OPI. They came out beautiful! After that I decided to do a manicure on myself. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything on my own hands and they were looking pretty dry. We can’t forget to take care of ourselves. Although we’re here to make others feel beautiful, you can’t help others if you can’t help yourself. Plus, your hands are the best way to advertise your work.

During our in-class day on Wednesday, I had the most fun. After another test. which we all completed and passed, we worked on Halloween nail art. Our instructor demonstrated how to do a jack-o-lantern, a black cat, a graveyard and a few other designs. We came back from lunch and I was ready to go. I grabbed my colors, sat down, plugged in my music and got in the zone. The outcome amazed me. I found myself staring at my work asking myself, “I did that?” For the first time, I was able to transfer the image in my head to the actual nail.
Here are my Halloween nail art designs. My favorite designs are the vampire lips and the trees with the tombstones.
I ended the week with another sculpted set appointment. We went from short uneven nails to long beautiful, nude colored, coffin nails. This young lady missed having nail enhancements and I was glad to restore them.
The before shows short and uneven nails to sculpted, nude, coffin nails.
One thing I will say is after using regular polish on this set, I’ve learned that I much prefer gel-polish. The process may be longer but the polish has a clean/shiny finish and it wears longer. The best part of all is you don’t have to wait for it to dry.
This week was smooth and successful. I hope you all had a successful week as well. Until next time keep spreading JoLove and while you love what you do but remember to LoveJoSelf.
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
