This week was jam-packed! On Monday I had class and found out that I would be going to the senior floor with the rest of the students. I also got a call back from a salon owner that I interviewed with and I started training Wednesday. I'm so excited! I love the salon. The name is Bed of Nails. The owner Candice is so nice, and I'm learning a lot.
On Tuesday, I went to the senior floor and completed some of my services. On Thursday, I went back to the senior floor, and a client came in to get her hair done and a pedicure. Nobody on the senior floor wanted to do it, so my instructor put our names in a hat, and — yes, you guessed it — my name was picked. At first I was like, ah, man! (I hate doing pedicures, but I love doing hands all day). I did the woman's pedicure, and when I was finished it was time to go.

I only have a few more services to do, only two weeks left of school, and then I'll be a licensed nail technician. I love the sound of that, and I can't wait! Right now, if I'm not in class I'm training or some days, I'm doing both. Bed of Nails is the exact type of salon I've dreamed of working at. It's so luxurious looking, and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. Also, the polish collection is insane! They have Chanel, Tom Ford, Deborah Lippmann, Christian Louboutin, Essie, etc. (pictures of the salon are below).
This week is IBSNY, and I'm so excited to see so much beauty in one room. Of course, I'm more excited for all the nail supplies that'll be there; I can't wait to buy new things. The only bad thing is there is a huge blizzard on the same day of IBS so I hope it doesn't get cancelled. [Editor’s note: IBSNY 2017 was not cancelled.] If you've lived in New York City, you know how crazy the weather is — one day it's nice and the next it’s five degrees outside.
Thank you to everyone for reading my blog; it truly means a lot. I’ll see you in week 21. Have an awesome week!
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
