This week I finished all of my required services. On Monday, one of the cosmetology students asked me to do her nails after she saw my nail page. I gave her a full set and she loved it. On Tuesday, one of my classmates asked me to change her gel color for her. She had just recently had her nails done in school and mentioned that she wanted coffin shape, but I noticed that she had long, square nails, so I reshaped them and gave her a pop of color with some glam. She loved the result. One thing I love about being a nail technician is seeing the confidence and new swag the client gets after I do her nails. It's an amazing feeling and I am so grateful to be the reason for that!
On wednesday I went to my salon, Bed of Nails, and they taught me how to do pedicures in their signature style. I was also able to do a manicure and pedicure for a client. It was her birthday, so she picked out a nice glitter gel for her fingers and I picked a nice glitter polish to match her toes. She was really happy.

On Thursday I did a full set on my practice hands to pass time, and Friday I did more gel manicures and pedicures. My gel application is getting better and better; it's almost perfect! I just have to keep practicing and it will be. I forgot to mention in last week's blog that another student in my school asked me to reshape and change her polish, and she really liked it.
It's only a few more days until I graduate. It's bittersweet because I won't be blogging for NAILS Magazine anymore. I love sharing my experience because it might help someone or it might just be someone's entertainment, but either way I'm grateful for everyone who reads my words each week. Thank you so much, and I'll see you in week 24 for my graduation!
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
