My chair was booked all week! I also got to do some nail art for my daughter.

I painted this Grinch freehand for my daughter and was so proud of the outcome!
I’m super excited. While I love nails and been enjoying this journey of nail school, I’m looking forward to our winter break. One of the things I love about Euphoria Institute is that we are offered a winter break, but it’s amazing that we have this opportunity to recharge and spend time with our families. This week was a short week due to the holidays, which I did not have any complaints about!
My classmate and I dressed in spirit during the shortened Christmas week.
I started out the week with a request for a pedicure. This client likes to sit at particular chair, so even though her appointment was for 7:30 p.m. I made sure to reserve that station for her ahead of time. Thank goodness I did, because I sat down to help one of my classmates do some Christmas nail art on herself, and in walked my client. I’m not sure if it was a miscommunication with the receptionist regarding appointment time, but it really didn’t matter. She was there and my station was fortunately prepared so we began. Of course she chose red for Christmas. Red can be one of the most difficult colors to polish if you don’t have a good polishing technique. It sounds simple to polish, but if not practiced and perfected, you can find yourself losing clients because they’re not satisfied with their finished look. That just goes to show that even the simple things are most important.

These nails were perfect for both CHristmas and New Year's.
To end the short week, we had a potluck and spa day. This is supposed to be our free day, but I still ended up doing nails. It’s a bittersweet feeling because I love that the other ladies love my work and I love the fact that my chair is never empty, but on the other hand, I would love to be pampered too. It’s okay though, remember staying positive is a choice. So I’ll choose to see the glass as half full, or just full in general since my chair is never empty!
Anyway, on this lovely spa day, one of my lovely cosmo friends came to me for a fill. It was awesome because she knew almost exactly what she wanted. I’m still not to the point where I’m creative enough to make up a design on the spot. I believe it’s because I have too many distractions with work and kids that I can’t fully tap into that artistic side of my brain yet. Either way she came to me with colors and an idea, and then let me take control from that point. It was nice because I had some guidance as to what she wanted but she allowed me to put my own spin on it. They came out beautiful, perfect for Christmas and the new year!
Happy Holidays from my family to yours.
That was it for this week of nail school but nails didn’t stop there. Of course, I had to do my daughter’s nails for Christmas! She wanted me to paint the Grinch on her finger. I was nervous but I told myself, “Just do it! If it doesn’t come out the way you want you can always take it off.”
Thank goodness I didn’t have to, they turned out so good I couldn’t stop staring at them.
I can’t believe this journey is coming to an end but there’s still some time to go. We’re just going to make every moment count and enjoy it as it flies by. Stay optimistic and know that only the best is yet to come. Merry Christmas everyone!
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
