I gave myself acrylic nails, which can be hard to maintain as a server, but I'm hoping to improve on this skill.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful New Year! I want to express how grateful I am that Euphoria has given us the opportunity to spend the holidays with our family. Not a lot of beauty schools offer that, but this one does and let’s just say it was much needed. While I enjoyed every second I got to spend with my husband and kids over this winter break, now it’s to time to get back to business.
It was a short week and when we came back it was surprisingly slow, maybe because everyone was still recovering from the holidays. Either way, I didn’t let that stop my momentum. It’s a New Year and there’s a lot to come and I’m so optimistic and looking forward to the future.

I felt a little rusty and I was tired of practicing on my fake practice hand, which I named Sasha, so I figured I'd practice on myself. It’s hard to keep up with nail enhancements as a server but being able to do my own nails would help.
I started with my left hand and I thought they came out pretty amazing. I surprised myself. I don’t know if it was all the videos I was watching or that fact that I was rejuvenated from the break but this is, for sure, a new me. Sculpting the right hand was pretty difficult as everyone knows, using your non-dominant hand is so uncomfortable. That wasn’t stopping me. After a few frustrating moments the acrylic was laid and balanced, and I added chrome flakes and a shiny glass top coat. I was proud of this one and I honestly felt like I accomplished something.
Thursday was my last chance to practice for our state board practical because Monday is the day! I feel like I’m ready...
Nervous? Yes, but who wouldn’t be.
I'm getting in all the practice I can before the state board exam.
When you care about what you’re doing, you’re going to want to be successful and failure is not an option. Overall, I feel like I’ve been well-prepped for Monday. I have no doubts that I’ll be able to pass. Especially with all of the moral support I’ve been getting from my family, my coworkers, and classmates. The love is real. This journey has been amazing and it’s coming close to the end. So I’m just going to enjoy every moment because every moment counts.

Continue to spread love and make a difference guys, you’ll be going places.
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
