Wow, that time just flew by! We're already two days away from finishing the first module and it feels like we just started. Next week, we begin enhancements.
This week was pretty laid back. We performed gel manicures on some of the other girls in the cosmetology and esthetics programs. It was nice to work on new hands and to have the opportunity to get to know the girls in other sections of beauty school, which was a great way to network.

Here is my classmate, Ms. Karla, doing a gel-polish application demo.
We performed hot oil manicures on each other. While hot oil manicures aren't very common, I learned they should be recommended to clients with very dry cuticles. It helps rehydrate the cuticle and the skin around the nail. Plus, it's soothing for the client.
The last thing we learned in our first module was nail wraps, which was difficult, but I always accept a challenge! I enjoyed nail wraps and would actually recommend some ladies to get nail wraps rather than other nail enhancement methods, such as monomer and polymer systems and hard gels.
I performed a gel manicure on a nail biter.
Thursday was a free day so we worked on nail art. Overall, I'd say it was pretty successful week at school. Life outside of school can be stressful but that's just part of change. Sometimes you have to break out of your comfort zone to get to where you want to be. It's about taking risk and believing in yourself enough to know that you'll be successful and that the risk is worth taking. It's hard but I know it's so going to be worth it! With five weeks down, and six months left, I'll soon be one of the beloved Las Vegas' nail techs and I cannot wait. I'm going to stay focused and stay motivated because this step I'm taking in life is the first of many to come.
Working on that nail art! I'm determined to turn into a beautiful butterfly.
As of this writing this instalment of my nail student blog may be the last one for a while. Similar to many schools and other institutions around the world, due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic classes at San Diego City College have been suspended until further notice.
During week five, we received another lecture on skin structure, growth, and nutrition and tests on pedicures and nail tips and wraps. A good portion of the week was focused on giving manicures.
NAILS has a new student blogger! San Diego-based Gregory Fletcher is looking forward to getting into the nail industry after retiring from his first career in the financial services industry
Let’s continue to shine, continue to spread light, joy and love to all around us! We’ll make a difference one smile, one hug, one nail service at a time!
It’s been such a long journey, from being excited and feeling unstoppable to being tired and exhausted and feeling like I couldn’t do it anymore. Now, every day that passes and I get closer to my graduation date I get more and more energy.
