All change isn't bad. Last week my instructor departed and this week my program director became my instructor. You can tell she loves the industry and I’m happy about that. This week felt as though the reset button was pressed and we are starting over. It seems as though things are becoming more and more organized for my good, and so I'm not complaining at all.

My biggest excitement this week was having the chance to work with colored acrylic with glitter. I will say that I have some work to do but it was neat learning how the consistency of the product is different from that of regular polymer. I cannot wait to practice on that. I am so thankful for my NAILS Magazine editor for sending some my way — it was right on-time in my practice package!

This week’s theory was covering nail diseases and disorders. The pictures were alarming and the stories were even scarier but it’s the real world and we have to know about these things. The terminology was broken down for us and I feel as though I have a clearer understanding of what to look for. It also helps me to know what is beyond my scope of practice. I also learned how to communicate effectively with a client to make sure that he/she knows what is going on. If I have to refuse the service due to a disease or disorder of the nail, I want to be sensitive in communicating with the client. Now let’s see how I do on the test in Week 10!

Time is getting near for me to hit the clinic floor. I cannot wait, and my friends and family feel the same way; they’re ready to be serviced by their favorite soon-to-be onyxologist! I’m learning a lot in a fast-paced environment and I couldn’t be happier. It’s all coming together and the experience only continues to confirm that I made the right decision by coming to school...again!
